DocsIndexation State
Indexation state
How to treat indexation as inventory monitoring: submitted vs indexed vs excluded, state changes, and validation over time.
Indexation is not a single-URL check. Operationally, it is an inventory baseline plus state changes over time.
Key concepts
- Submitted inventory: what you told Google exists (sitemaps, known URL sets).
- Indexed inventory: URLs eligible to show.
- Excluded inventory: URLs not eligible (by state/reason).
- Low visibility inventory: indexed URLs with near-zero impressions.
What to monitor
- total inventory volume (growth and churn)
- indexed vs excluded ratio over time
- excluded spikes after deploys, migrations, or template changes
- low visibility inventory growth (often a signal of overproduction or weak internal routing)
